Bernard Hadley Rushton

June 8, 1929 — October 1, 2017

Bernard (Bernie) Hadley Rushton, 88, of Mooresville, passed away October 1, 2017. He was born June 8, 1929 in Monrovia, Indiana. He was the fourth child of five of the late Harry Henley and Alice Elizabeth (Hadley) Rushton of Monrovia. He graduated from Monrovia High School in May 1948 and married Phyllis Jane (Smith) Rushton of Mooresville June 19, 1951. In his early years he worked at Indianapolis Stockyards and later owned Rushton Sunoco, Rushton Tire Center and Rushton Chrysler Plymouth in Mooresville. He retired from Daily Motors in Martinsville, and is a member of the Plainfield Christian Church.

He is a Korean Army Veteran and served 1951 -1953. His most significant duty assignment was when he was stationed in Hanau, Germany for 6 months in the 35th TT Co 38 Battalion
At one time, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Merchants Association, Lions and Optimist Clubs of Mooresville and served on the Board for the Mooresville Christian Academy. He has been a member of Mooresville Lodge #78, for 52 years and member of the
Scottish Rite.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Alice Rushton, three brothers, Robert Wendell, Raymond Eugene and Wayne Ellis Rushton, three nieces Patricia Louise (Rushton) Allen, Roberta Lee (Rushton) Miller, Kattie Sue (Rushton) Tucker, nephew Larry Wayne Rushton and son-in-law Phillip Anthony Rainbolt.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis Rushton, sister, Wilma Pine and sister-in-law Martha Rushton. Their children, Brian Rushton (Linda) of Camby, Brenda Hunt (John) of Mooresville, and Betsy Rainbolt of Newark, Ohio; grandchildren Jeremy (Kia) Rushton, Tiffany Rushton, Jessica Scalf, Lindsay (Dale) Luttrell, Courtney (Joe) Horgan, Stephanie (Joel) Houghton, Sarah (Brian) Gardner, Joe Hunt, Sam and Erin Rainbolt; and nine great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

The times he treasured most were holidays, birthdays, school and sporting events of the grandchildren and anytime that brought family together. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by all family members as his legacy.

The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017, in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2017. The Masonic Memorial will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Mooresville Cemetery, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Plainfield Christian Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
