Charles Dykes

June 23, 1941 — April 20, 2015

Charles Dykes, 73 of Mooresville, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his bedside.

The son of Robert and Aileen Dykes, he was born on June 23, 1941 in Drum, Kentucky. Relocating from Indianapolis, Charlie lived in Mooresville for 37 years.

A retiree of American Trans Air, he had a flare for life. As an avid hunter, he always had a story about the “big buck” that got away. As a result of his passion for racing, he and his cousin, Tony co-owned the number 55 car, winning many trophies at the local race track. Charlie was loved dearly by his family and friends.

Survivors include his beautiful wife, Sharon Dykes, to whom he was happily married for 35 years; five children, Deanna Dykes-Matthews, Kimberly Brewster-McCubbin, Allen (Sherrie) Dykes, Jodi (Billy) Brewster-Tilford and Kathy Dykes; nine grandchildren, Shianne, Ashlea, Brandon, Morgan, Megan, Tayler, Billie-Jo, Kacey and Cooper; seven great grandchildren, Dakota, Ethan, Alexis, Kylie, Piper, Olivia, and Kamryn; one brother, Fred Dykes of Chicago; a host of wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Aileen Dykes and two brothers, Robert Jr. and Tommy Dykes.

Family and friends will gather for visitation in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville on Saturday, May 2, 2015, 2 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall.
