John Van Der Merwe

64, of Camby, passed away January 21, 2018 in St Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. John was born on December 2, 1953 in George, South Africa to the late Christiaan H. and Marie Van Der Merwe.

John served in the Army in medical services in South Africa, later as a nurse practitioner in Maryland, after moving to the United States with his wife. John enjoyed music of all kinds and played the drums and bass guitar. He also enjoyed flying remote control planes, history, following politics and collecting and shooting guns.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter; Tanya Van Der Merwe.

He is survived by his wife Izel (Holtzhausen) Van Der Merwe, son; Christiaan Van Der Merwe, daughter; Jeanine Henigin, sisters; Lorriane Swanepoel, Lynette Van Schalkwyk, two grandchildren; John Samuel Henigin, Amber Rose Henigin and one grandchild on the way, Benjamin Duane Henigin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00pm at Carlisle- Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with visitation Saturday one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow the services and a private inurnment will take place at a later date.
