Billy J. Proctor

74, of Mooresville, passed away on September 18, 2019 at home. Billy was born on November 29, 1944 in Indianapolis, IN to the late William T. Proctor and Pearl M. (Miles) Proctor.

Billy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. After service, he went to work for the United States Postal Service first as a carrier and later retiring as a manager. A talented artist, carpenter and woodworker, Billy was known for his handcrafted guitars and artwork. He was also a lifetime member of the Thunder Creek Long Rifles and the National Congress of Old West Shootists. He was also a language expert in Native American languages and taught several classes. He was also a member of Mt. Gilead Church, Mooresville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Florence (Messer) Farmer, Helen (Messer) Browder, Rachel (Messer) Scisciani and a brother Charles R. Messer.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Patricia A. (Zahnd) Proctor; children Margaret C. Proctor, William C. Proctor of Mooresville; sisters Patricia M. Proctor of Polk City, FL, Dorothy Sprague of Columbus, IN as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Billy’s life will be held Sunday Sept. 22nd from 2-6pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Funeral services will be held Monday Sept. 23rd at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.

Memorial contributions may be directed in Billy’s memory to Mt. Gilead Church.
