Carl V. Muncy Sr.

December 4, 1938 — June 26, 2013

Carl V. Muncy, Sr., 74, Shelbyville, entered into Eternal Life peacefully at his residence on June 26, 2013. Mr. Muncy was born December 4, 1938, in Bar Creek, Kentucky, to the late Taylor and Stella (Baker) Muncy.

He graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1956 and from the University of Louisville in 1960. Mr. Muncy taught school for three years before becoming an industrial engineer. He was employed at General Electric in Louisville for a period of time. When the family relocated to Shelbyville in 1967, he was employed at IPC for ten years. Always possessing an entrepreneurial spirit, Carl became involved in real estate investments and automobile sales many years ago. Most recently, he was the owner and operator of Vine Street Motors in Shelbyville.

In addition to a busy professional life, Mr. Muncy was also very civic minded. He was a member of the Jaycees for many years and became the first Senator at the national level from Shelbyville and also had served as a National Director. He was a member of the Shelbyville Masonic Lodge #28 and a member of the Greenfield Lions Club. Mr. Muncy was an active and devoted member of Town & Country Christian Church, where he served as deacon, elder, and treasurer. He had also been named to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He enjoyed camping, riding scooters, and attending car shows and auctions. He will be missed by a loving family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Catherine Muncy.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn (Smith) Muncy, to whom he was united in marriage August 9, 1957; children, Vicki Risch (Jerry) of Whiteland, Pam Branson (Mark) of New Palestine, Paula Henry (Phil) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Carl V. Muncy, Jr. of Shelbyville; brother, Glenn Muncy of Jeffersonville; grandchildren, Amy and Andrew Luther; Kylie Kerans (Kaleb), Krista Kelsay (Justin Green), Eli, Tyler, and Kelsey Branson; Austin Coffey (Kristina Neibert) and Corbin Coffey; great grandchildren, Bobbi Jo, Brock and Brea Johnson, Kellen Coffey; Silas Branson.

Friends and family will gather on Friday, June 28, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Town & Country Christian Church, 2133 Tucker Road, Shelbyville. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., on Saturday, June 29, 2013, in the church. Revs. Ian Farnsley and Don Bennett will officiate. Burial will follow in Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens, Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Envelopes will be available at the services.
