Charles C. "Charlie" Jones

September 25, 1938 — November 8, 2021

Charles C. Jones
83, of Mooresville, passed away on November 8, 2021 at St Francis Hospital in Mooresville. Charles was born on September 25, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Benjamin Franklin Jones and Ina Mae (Comer) Jones.

Charlie is one of those journeyman pilots that was lucky enough to always find an aviation job close to home and make a good living at it. Like most pilots, he started as a young man, getting his Private & Commercial pilot’s license in 1957 from Roscoe Turner Aviation in Indianapolis. Starting in a Tri-Pacer, he also did line work for Roscoe’s as well as charter work with Twin Beech. Charlie worked for American Airlines from 1964-1968 in the ramp and ticket counter, while building time until he got his first corporate job with Bowes Seal Fast, then with P.R. Mallory (Duracell Battery). His flying credentials include such classic aircraft as the Lockheed Lodestar & Learstar and Convair 240, then on to King Air, the Merlin 2B and Lear 25s. When Dart Industries acquired Mallory, Charlie got on with ATA where he flew Lear 35s and Citations as well as general trouble shooting until he was hired by Brown Associates to fly the Falcon 20. He finished his flying career with B G Enterprises flying the Westwind II, Hawker 800 and the Falcon 900. Charlie had seven types of ratings and a lifetime of stories.
In addition to flying, Charlie loved spending time with his family and playing a round of golf every chance he could. He was also a member of the Quiet Birdmen.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by wife Jeanne E. Jones; son Chris Jones; brother William F. Jones and a granddaughter, Tina Sloan.

He is survived by his sons, Craig (Pam) Jones, Scott (Donna) Jones, Steve (LaVonne) Jones; grandchildren Crystal, Matthew, Bryan, Krisdon, Brianna, Brendon, Adam, Samantha; 10 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
