Clara Wyrick

June 19, 1938 — July 24, 2022

Clara Wyrick 84

Clara was born in Monroe County on June 19, 1938, to Kenneth and Ellen (Rice) Keller. She graduated from Bloomington High School with the class of 1956. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana University Bloomington in 1960 and her Masters Degree in 1963. She was a beloved elementary teacher. Her first teaching position was in Richmond Indiana and she later taught in two elementary schools in the Indianapolis area. For her last 33 years of teaching she was in the Metropolitian District of Martinsville at Brooklyn Elementary. She loved teaching and her students. First Grade was her favorite and she enjoyed seeing her adult students and learning about their successes.

Clara is survived by her son, Brian (Eleni Linas) Wyrick of Denver, Colorado and sister, Martha Street of Bloomington. She has one nephew, W. Jay (Heather) Street and a great niece, Sophia Street of Naperville, Illinois.

Clara is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Wyrick, her parents and her brother-in-law, William Street of Bloomington.

Clara lived in Mooresville for many year and had served on the Library Board. After retirement she donated many hours to the Library and the Indiana State Museum. She visited many elementary schools in the area presenting the covered wagon program. She loved working with young children. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Mooresville and attended Arlington United Methodist Church while living in Bloomington. Several years ago she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Although it is a dreadful disease she was always active in her community. She was an avid reader. After leaving her home in Mooresville she moved to a Senior facility in Bloomington to be near relatives. When Stonecroft opened in Bloomington, she moved to the assisted living facility. She remained in that facility. She was always a shining light to all those around her and never complained about her Parkinson’s Disease. She kept active until the end of life. Clara would be thrilled to have you contribute to the Parkinson’s Association in her memory. Her dream was finding a cure and/or improved medication for persons suffering from Parkinsons. She enjoyed the many activities at Stonecroft and tried daily to make others around her happy. She will be missed by her family and the many residents there. The family would like to thank Stonecroft for their many wonderful helpers who cared for her. A special thank you to Dawn and her loving care each day.
