Clyde Carter

Clyde Carter, 73, Mooresville, passed away after an extended illness August 20, 2018. Clyde was born September 4, 1944, in St. Charles, Virginia, to the late Green Carter and Thelma Louise (Haynes) Prater.

Clyde worked for General Motors for more than 20 years, retiring in 2001. He served two terms as Master of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge #78 and was most recently a member of Indianapolis Lodge #669. Clyde was an accomplished ritualist in the Masonic brotherhood. He also served as past Patron of the Mooresville Order of the Eastern Star. Clyde enjoyed the outdoors – fishing and hunting were among his favorite pastimes. His greatest hobby though was woodworking. He enjoyed spending time in his woodshop and sharing his extensive collection of tools with his many friends. In more recent years, Clyde could often be found on his golf cart, riding around with his canine companion, Sam. Clyde’s memory will be forever cherished by his loving family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jason and a sister, Ella Mae Ely.

Survivors include his wife, Myra (Westenhofer) Carter, to whom he was united in marriage January 7, 1966; two daughters, Pam (Patrick) Hoff of Camby and Lori (Rod) Smith of Mooresville; brothers, Charles Carter of Mooresville, Earl Carter of Mooresville, and Willard Carter of Virginia; grandchildren, Stephen, Stewart, and Spencer; Amber and Gracie; great grandchildrnen, Emma and Lilly.

According to Clyde’s wishes, calling hours will not be observed, and services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indianapolis Masonic Lodge 669, PO Box 753, Mooresville, IN 46158.
