Dixie Lee Woodcock

September 12, 1944 — May 31, 2022

Mooresville –Dixie Lee Woodcock, 77, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on May 31st, 2022. Dixie was born in Indianapolis, IN on September 12th, 1944 to Raymond E. Varvel and Mary J. Smith.

A nomad at heart in her youth, Dixie and her children enjoyed a life of travel as they grew. No matter where they ended up though, Dixie would always find horses to ride and friends to make. Strangers didn’t exist in Dixie’s life, just new faces.

Her love of animals wasn’t confined to just horses. She spent several years breeding and fostering dogs, making sure they got loving homes with caring parents. She was a long-time attendee of the Brown County Horseman’s Camp.

Eventually Dixie settling in with American General, working as a machinist and forklift driver. She stayed there for over 23 years before “retiring” to a variety of other social jobs.

Dixie is preceded in death by her parents Raymond Varvel and Mary Smith; daughter Carrie Jeanette; son Steven Michael Woodcock; sister Debra Arlinghaus; and brother Morris Pickett.

Dixie is survived by her daughters Mary Harland (Roy), Amber Lynch (Bryan); son Tim Woodcock (Annette); brothers Larry Varvel and Sonny Varvel; and 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Friends and family will gather for calling on Monday, June 6th from 5 – 8 pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Services, 39 E High Street, Mooresville IN 46158. Funeral Services will be held on June 7th, 12 pm at Carlisle Branson with interment to follow at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 N Holt Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46222.

Come as you are but western wear will be appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Dixie’s name to your local hospice organization.

***High Street is CLOSED due to a major Indiana State Road improvement project. Please access the funeral home from Indiana Street or South Street by using the alleys that are adjacent to the funeral home.
