James Van Hoy

July 21, 1937 — January 7, 2017

James Van Hoy, 79, longtime Mooresville resident, passed away after a lengthy illness on January 7, 2017. Jim was born July 21, 1937, in Morgan County to the late James L. and Isabel (VanWinkle) Van Hoy.

He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1955 and attended Butler University and Lynchburg College. He worked in sales and management for Pitney Bowes for 25 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement, he became a locksmith and proudly owned and operated Auto Lockout Service. Jim was a 65-year member of the Mooresville First Christian Church and more recently attended the Plainfield Christian Church. He was also a member of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge #78, the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce, and the Mooresville Alumni Association. Jim recently served on the Brown Township Trustee Board. Jim was always happy riding horses, playing golf, riding his motorcycle and Vespa, traveling, and especially spending time with his family. Jim’s memory will be cherished by his loving family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Van Hoy; and step-son, Brian Nowlin.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Van Hoy, to whom he was united in marriage November 21, 1994; daughter, Cindy Van Hoy of Monrovia; son, Brian Van Hoy (Kirsten) of Trafalgar; step-son, Todd Nowlin (Melinda) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Sarah Van Hoy (Mahdi), Ethan Van Hoy, Elon O’Neill (Jarrett), Elliott Van Hoy, and Austin Baker; one great granddaughter, Lochlyn Rose O’Neill.

Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, 4 to 8 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in the funeral home, with additional visitation from 10 a.m. Burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mooresville Christian Church or to the Plainfield Christian Church.
