John A. Clark

November 3, 1943 — December 24, 2018

John A. Clark
John was the kindest soul one could have the privilege of knowing. The pattern of always wanting to give was deeply ingrained in him. He helped many people along their paths in life, usually at a sacrifice to himself. He was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana graduating from John Adams High School in 1962. In high school, John excelled in science, was President of the Student Council and Class President. In 1966, he graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Micro-Bacteriology. After serving in the army during the Vietnam War, John settled in Martinsville. He purchased acreage surrounding a private lake and subdivided it into large parcels keeping one parcel for himself. In this setting of majestic trees overlooking a lovely lake, he felt that he had found his "piece of heaven". One of John's hobbies was cooking, especially for friends. He decided to try his hand at opening a take-out restaurant and was the founder of "Sgt. Pepper's Chicken" which he later sold. John had a way of quickly connecting to people —even strangers. Up until one week before he died, he was still charming his caregivers and the hospice nurses so that each individual truly felt his deep appreciation for them. John was predeceased by his parents, Esther and Frank Clark, and his younger brother, Jeff. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Moon (Wayne) of California, his nephew, Doug Clark (Jill and family) Texas and long-time friends, Sherri Hays of Greenwood and Brent Hays of Martinsville. Although John died from Auto-immune Limbic Encephalitis, he wished for any donations made in his memory to be given to the Alzheimer's Association. The greatest way to honor John would be to do an unexpectedly kind act to assist another human being in need. You may enhance this tribute by adding your memories of John at www.CarlisleBranson.com.
