John "Barney" Barnette

80, of Clayton, Indiana passed away on May 26, 2022. John was born in Rushville, Indiana on February 11, 1942 to the late Merle Malcom and Pearl Opal Barnette. John was a 1961 graduate of Connersville, High School and worked as a mechanic at Allison Power Train for over 49 years from which he just recently retired. He married his wife of 37 years on April 1, 1985. Drag racing was John's pride and joy. He could be found at the track every time he had the chance! Drag racing was a family affair and many good memories were made at the track! John never knew a stranger and was willing to help anyone that would allow him to. Although he was a quiet man, he had a heart of gold and will be dearly missed.

John is survived by his loving wife; Rhonda, children; Kevin Barnette, Terry (Christy) Tubbs and Nicole Tubbs, grandchildren; John Barnette, Brooke (Allen) Barnette, Kyle Tubbs, Katrina Tubbs and Trevor Kennedy, great-grandchildren; Hayden, Cameron and Merida Barnette, brother; James (Mildred) Barnette, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his children; Kyle Barnette and Carolyn Holly Barnette-Matheney and sister; Kathryn Manley.

Visitation will be at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Services & Crematory on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 12:00pm-3:00pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be immediately following in the Funeral Home at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association in John's name.

Barney would want you to "come as you are" and be comfortable!
