Leon Skorinko

Leon Skorinko, age 87, of Mooresville, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on September 3, 2015. He was born April 23, 1928 in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, son of the late Roman and Anna Skorinko. He graduated from Palmerton High School in 1946; he served as class president for four years and participated in football and other sports. Leon started college at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana in 1946, and married Violet Elizabeth Wilson in June 1949. He graduated from Anderson in 1951, and moved his family to Walworth, New York. In New York, he was an executive for Kordite Corporation and Mobil Chemical Corporation, retiring in 1990.

Upon retirement, Leon and Violet moved to Abingdon, Virginia, where they lived for 19 years. In 2009 they moved to Mooresville, Indiana. Over the years, Leon volunteered for the Boy Scouts and in various capacities in his local church, including longstanding service as a member of the Board of Trustees and church treasurer in New York and in Virginia. He also was an avid golfer and sports fan, particularly enjoying football, baseball, and golf.

In addition to his wife and parents, Leon was preceded in death by his brother Victor and wife Kathleen Skorinko, brother Paul and wife Betty Skorinko, and nieces Vicky Skorinko and Sharon Skorinko Shu. Leon is survived by three daughters, Jo Ellen and husband H. Stanley Jenkins, M.D. of Centerville, Ohio; Cynthia and husband Daniel Terrell of Freedom, Indiana, and Celia and husband Donald Wier of Mooresville. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Peter and wife Moira Jenkins, Andrew and wife Katie Jenkins, Ben and wife Hannah Cox, Libby and husband Christopher Leimer, Matthew Cox, Sarah Cox, Jonathan Carey, and Jared Wier. Six great-grandchildren include James, Maggie, and Anna Jenkins, Henry Jenkins, and Kodiak and Aurora Cox. Also surviving are two nephews, David Skorinko and Kenneth Skorinko of Pennsylvania; a niece, Susan Clerkin of Florida, their families, and many cousins and in-laws.

Leon will be greatly missed and remembered by his family as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will also be remembered for his faithfulness to God and generosity to others. Leon’s family especially appreciates Diana Crayton and Patience Crayton-Asher for their friendship and attentive care for Leon.

The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2015, in the Mooresville Church of God, with calling there from 10 a.m., until service time. Burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mooresville Church of God, 218 E. Main Street, Mooresville, IN 46158.
