Norma D. Tapp

June 29, 1929 — December 19, 2016

Norma D. (Lanam) Tapp, 87 of Mooresville, passed away December 19, 2016, at Worthington Place in Camby surrounded by her loving family. Born June 29, 1929 in Ellettsville, Indiana, Norma was the daughter of Theodore L. and Glodina (Taylor) Lanam; her parents preceded her in death. On June 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Kenneth Tapp, and he also preceded her in death on November 1, 1973. After Kenneth passed away, Norma was married to Ray Poteet for 10 years.

Norma was a 1947 graduate of Ellettsville High School where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from Indiana University. A devoted educator for the Mooresville School Corporation, she taught 4th graders at Newby Elementary and Neil Armstrong Elementary for 26 years; she retired in 1992. After retirement, Norma enjoyed her work as a volunteer for the Indiana State Museum teaching the Covered Wagon Program to 4th graders throughout Indiana. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Mooresville Public Library. During her spare time, Norma enjoyed reading, traveling, researching family genealogy, and spending time with her family.

Norma was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Ellettsville and was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Mooresville. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and educator, Norma’s legacy will be forever cherished by her family, many friends, students, and colleagues.

Survivors include her three children, Suzie McClanahan of Mooresville, Ted (Rosemary) Tapp of Anderson, Indiana, and Phillip (Sherri) Tapp of Columbus, Indiana; a brother, Howard (Sheila) Lanam of Bruceville, Indiana; her sister, Marilyn Bohrer of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Kenneth Tapp, Lindsay Mitchell, Katie Acheampong, Travis Tapp, and Kelli Nelson; and one great grandson, Reid Nelson.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Norma Tapp on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Presbyterian Cemetery in Ellettsville, Indiana.
