Paul Eugene Poland Sr.

Of Mooresville, passed away after a lengthy illness on September 17, 2019 at the age of 88. Paul was born on March 22, 1931 in Skelton, West Virginia to William Clarence Poland and Anna Mae Tyree.

In 1947 Paul enlisted into the Army at the age of 16. In 1952 while stationed in Princeton, West Virginia he met the love of his life, 17-year-old Eileen Jeanette Polk at a dance. They were married three months later and recently celebrated 66 loving years together.

Paul proudly served his country in the Army for 20 years and in 1967, retired at the age of 36. After his retirement from the Army, he moved the family to Martinsville, Indiana where he worked as a machinist at Allison Motors in Indianapolis.
After retiring from Allison IN 1992, Paul and Eileen traveled all over the United States in their motor home and eventually settled down to split time between Martinsville and Bushnell, Florida. Wherever Paul and Eileen traveled they made many friends and shared wonderful memories. While in Florida he was a member of the Honorary Honor Guard where his unit honored the passing of many veterans.

Paul was baptized into the Baptist faith in 1971 and faithfully served the Lord wherever they were singing in the choir and taking on leadership roles as Deacon, Choir Director, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He also assisted in the building of three churches.

Paul is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eileen; son Jerry Poland and wife Tammy of Longview, TX; son Paul “Butch” Poland and wife Ann of Cicero, IN; son Donald Poland and fiancé Sandy Fulton of Mooresville, IN; sister Mary Martha Stanton and husband Tom of Claremont, CA; grandchildren Stephanie, Katy, Matt, Karry, Donna, Jesse and 17 great grandchildren.

Paul is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Mayme Viola Dalton, brother William Clarence Poland and brother Earl Francis Poland.

Visitation will be held on Saturday Sept. 21st from 2-4pm at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1150 IN-144, Mooresville, IN 46158, with the funeral services beginning at 4pm Saturday at the church. Burial will be Monday at the Indiana Veterans Cemetery in Madison, IN.
