Russell Lee Fawcett

September 12, 1923 — October 30, 2018

Russell Lee Fawcett was born September 12th, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana and ascended from this world to rest in peace with the Angels on October 30th, 2018 at the age of 95. A devoted husband and father, he was married to Jerilyn for nearly 71 years, together raising 3 children and watching the family grow to include 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Born the younger of 2 children to parents Russell Wayne and Ruth Fawcett of Indianapolis, he attended Arsenal Tech High School. Russell was preceded in passing by his father at a young age and his mother in 1981 at 85. He is survived by his wife Jerilyn, sons Gregory and James, daughter Jeri, and his older sister, Mrs. Elsie Beswick of Greenwood. Russell was a talented figure skater, and as a young man performed in the “Sonja Henie Ice Revue” in the late 1940’s / early 50’s which was later renamed “Holiday On Ice.” It was his love of ice skating that led to his introduction to Jerilyn Barnes while ice skating at the Indianapolis Coliseum. One of his proudest moments in the early 1980’s was being a Judge during competition try-outs for US Winter Olympics figure skating. Growing up in the Depression Era, Russell would spend summers on his Uncle’s farm in Sturgis, Michigan, hitch-hiking over the long journey. As a young man, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a federally funded organization during the Great Depression that put thousands of Americans to work on projects with environmental benefits. As an adult, Russell was a Mason and became a member of the Scottish Rite. He began a career in the HVAC industry with Crystal Flash Petroleum Company in the 1950’s, then went on to work as a Manufacturers’ Representative with National Engineering before returning to the HVAC and Electrical contracting industry, founding Fawcett Equipment Co. and Fawcett Heating & Cooling, Inc. He also served as Vice-Chair on the Indianapolis Board of Heating Examiners during Mayor Wm. Hudnut’s administration. He continued to lead the family business until selling in late 1980’s, retiring and eventually moving to Florida. Russell loved to play golf and became quite good at it for much of his life—he shot a hole-in-1 more than a few times. He and Jerilyn spent many years playing golf as members of Indian Lakes Golf Club in northeast Indianapolis. After retiring, Russell and Jerilyn moved to N. Fort Myers, Florida, where they lived within a golf-course community for many years before eventually returning to Indianapolis and settling in the Mooresville area near his youngest son Jim.
