Virginia "Ginnie" Simpson

March 24, 1922 — April 23, 2012

Virginia “Ginnie” Griggs Simpson, 90, of Columbus, formerly of Franklin, died April 23, 2012, in Columbus Regional Hospital. Mrs. Simpson was born March 24, 1922, in West Newton, Indiana, to the late Loren H. and Iva (Bourne) Griggs.

Mrs. Simpson graduated from Martinsville High School and attended Christian College and Indiana University. She worked early on for Bridgeport Brass and Wasson Department Store. She enjoyed knitting, needle point, gardening, and was a gourmet cook. On a more adventuresome level, she also enjoyed fly fishing and big game hunting with her husband. Mrs. Simpson loved to entertain and was known for creating very memorable family dinners and functions. She was also a 70-year member of Chi Omega Sorority and had also been a member of Tri Kappa.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Margaret “Peggy” King.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. George W. Simpson, to whom she was united in marriage April 25, 1943; one daughter, Soosie Schrader (Bernard) of Nashville; one grandson, Corey Schrader (Sara) of Texas; one great grandson, Oren Schrader.

The memorial service will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. A private graveside service will be held at West Union Cemetery, Monrovia. Memorial contributions may be made to Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, 615 N. Alabama St., Room 228, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
