Charles E. Baughman

Martinsville

Charles E. Baughman, 90, Martinsville, passed away June 4, 2023.  Mr. Baughman was born November 27, 1932, in Olney, Illinois, to the late John and Oma (Hughes) Baughman.  He married Diana (Allen) Baughman on October 15, 1966, and she survives.

Charles graduated from Danville (IL) High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  An incredibly handy and detail-oriented man, Charles worked as a maintenance supervisor for IMC Fertilizer, Emconite Plastics, and retired from GTR Enterprises.  Always armed with a strong work ethic, Charles went back to work and had two “retirement jobs” that he enjoyed at 3 Phase Electric and lastly at the Lowes in Bloomington.

Charles was a talented woodworker and made countless clocks that were very detailed and included complicated carvings.  He also enjoyed making wooden model ships, playing horseshoes in his backyard in Brooklyn where the family lived for many years.  His love for airplanes continued long after his time in the Air Force.  After Diana suffered her stroke and became reliant on full-time care in a nursing home, Charles visited her all day on a daily basis until his own health did not allow him to do so.  His kindness and love for his family will be forever cherished by his loved ones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, George, Lloyd, Alvie, Bernice, and Robert; grandson, Ben Harmon.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Diana; children, Michael (Andrea) Baughman and Kimberly (William) Harmon; his 102 year old sister, Marie Beard; grandchildren, Hannah Baughman, Seth Wright, Will Harmon, Caleb Disney, and Julia Harmon.

Charles’ Life Celebration® Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 E. High Street, Mooresville.  Visitation will conclude with military honors presented by the United States Air Force.  Visit
