Emily Sue Armstrong

March 18, 1975 — January 13, 2024

Mooresville

Emily Sue Armstrong, 48, of Mooresville, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at St. Vincent Heart Center. She was born in Beech Grove on March 18, 1975, to Arlen and Judith (Davee) Armstrong. Emily graduated from Mooresville High School in the class of 1993 and enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after. She served in the Navy for 3 years, studying Hebrew at the Defense Language Institute until 1996, before enlisting in the United States Army in 2000. While in the Army, Emily studied pre-engineering at Pensacola Junior College. She was deployed to Iraq in 2006 where her duties were commander of a logistics and supply convoy. Emily’s bravery and tenacity earned her the Bronze Star while deployed. After deployment, Emily earned her bachelor’s degree in computer science from IUPUI in 2011. She then became the logistics manager at Camp Atterbury from 2012-2013. As a master sergeant, Emily dedicated 23 years to the United States Military before retiring in 2020. She was a member of the VFW and the first female commander of the American Legion Post 103.

In her younger years, Emily played recreational softball, basketball, and soccer. She was part of the Mooresville Color Guard and enjoyed playing rugby. In her free time, Emily thoroughly enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson motorcycles. One of her rescue dogs, Raucous, would even ride alongside her in the sidecar of her Harley. Emily especially loved fishing trips with Dad. Together, they took part in Henderson Mission trips to Frakes, Kentucky to help repair houses. Emily had a heart for helping others, whether people or animals. She continued serving others through the gift of organ donation. Her generosity and compassion will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Emily is preceded in death by her mother, Judith Armstrong. Survivors include her father, Arlen Armstrong; brother, Eric (Hannah) Armstrong; sister, Kelly (John) Connell; nephews, Sean and Jack; nieces, Cami and Emma; aunt, Margaret Davee; and a host of cousins.
