Garland L. Gowen

90, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 12, 2023, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Garland was born on August 2, 1932, at his home in Edgar County, IL to the late Kenneth and Audrey (Martin) Gowens. Garland married his loving wife Carolyn “Lamb” Gowen on July 19, 1985.

Garland was a Corporal in the Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany from January 1953 to December 1954. He worked in quality control at General Motors for 42 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed doing yard work, playing all sports, and was an avid runner. Garland was also a Mason for over 30 years.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother George Gowens.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn; Son, Bruce (Cielo) Gowen; daughter, Shari (Byron) Johnson; step-daughter, Tami (Randy) Peters; Sisters, Kathleen (Wayne) Craig and Gayle Mills; grandchildren Cassie (Robert) Fekkes, Neysa Jones, Rachel Gowen, Christopher Gowen, and Jermiah Gowen; great grandchildren, Seth Simmons, Pylot Neveda, and Zoe Neveda.

Family and friends will gather for Garland’s Life Celebration® visitation on Monday, April 17th from 4pm-8pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory Mooresville. Graveside services will held at Bono Cemetery in Dana, IN at 1pm on Tuesday, April 18th.
