Herman D. Atwood, 74, Monrovia, passed away February 28, 2023.  Herman was born April 13, 1948, in Plainfield, to the late Roscoe and Frances (Lynn) Atwood.  He married Linda Sue (Hayes) Atwood on July 12, 1969, and she survives.

Herman attended Mooresville High School and graduated from Monrovia High School in 1967.  He worked at Glovers in Mooresville, J & L Steel (later Edgcomb Metals) and later worked in security at the former Wishard Hospital and IU Hospital.  Herman was a longtime and faithful member of Monrovia Christian Church and the Monrovia Masonic Lodge #654.  Herman always looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Port Clinton with his friends.  He was extremely active with Special Olympics being named Coach of the Year and ranking 13th at the national level among coaches.  Herman greatly enjoyed being an integral part of this special time with his sons and their many friends.  He was also a collector and enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets.  He was known for his love of children and continually adopted them as the "grandchildren he never had".  Above all, Herman had a huge heart and was an incredibly selfless person - always putting the needs of others before his own.  Herman’s memory will be forever cherished by his loving family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Herman Dean Atwood; his brothers, Harold and Curtis Atwood; sister, Hazel Meyer.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Sue Atwood; son, Brian Atwood; brother, Eugene (Shirley) Atwood; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
