Mary Jane Sievers

84, of Martinsville, passed away on December 24, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. Mary Jane was born on June 26, 1938, in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Lester Sievers and Mary Ann (Hess) Sievers.


Mary Jane entered the Daughters of Charity on September 1958 at Marillac Provincial House, St. Louis, MO where she trained as a nurse specializing in hospital work and more specifically maternity nursing. She served as a nurse for 15 years at various hospitals in St. Louis, San Francisco, Evansville, Nashville and Chicago. Mary Jane was a graduate of Marillac College St. Louis 1963 with a BSN Nursing and Philosophy degree. She also received professional training at St. Mary’s School of Nursing Evansville, IN.


Mary Jane went on to further pursue her nursing career and spent time as an instructor for the LPN/ Associate Nursing Program and earned a Masters of Nursing degree in Women’s health from IU. She worked as a OBGYN nurse practitioner for many years, retiring in 2002.


Mary Jane loved being active, spending time outdoors, gardening, hiking, biking, fishing, and playing euchre. She loved animals, building birdhouses, and traveling the world, throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and to parts unknown. Mary Jane touched many lives and had many friends both far and near. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her siblings as well as her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a kind, compassionate soul who always wanted to help others. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed trying to “pull your leg” any chance she could. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Donald, Tony, Lester Jr. “Bud”, Irvan, Gilbert, George, and a sister Betty.


She is survived by her brothers, Larry, Joe, Steve, sister Hilda, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.


Friends and family will gather to celebrate Mary Jane’s life privately at a later date in Vincennes.
