Mona Jean Powell

July 13, 1940 — September 26, 2023

Sun City Center, Florida

We are deeply saddened to share the news of Mona Jean Powell's (Kaufman) passing at the age of 83. Mona passed away on September 26th, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was not only a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, but also a remarkable person who had a passion for music and achieved great success in the field of real estate.

Mona was born on July 13th, 1940, in Montezuma, Indiana. After she completed her education at Manual High School, she pursued a career in real estate and obtained both her real estate license and brokerage license. Her exceptional skills and dedication to her work allowed her to become a distinguished member of Century 21's Million Dollar Club.

Mona became a prominent figure in the real estate industry through her unwavering commitment and tireless work ethic. She held the prestigious position of President of the Morgan County Board of Realtors, a testament to her unparalleled success. In addition, Mona's tenaciousness led to her acquisition of her brokerage license and co-founding Pioneer Real Estate.

Mona was a beloved wife to soulmate, Terry, devoted mother to their beautiful, blended family of four, and highly adored by her eighteen grandchildren. Mona and Terry decided to spend their golden years in sunny Florida, seeking a peaceful and relaxed lifestyle. Eventually, they found the perfect place in Sun City Center, Florida, a quintessential Floridian home surrounded by private lakes, serene landscapes, and neighbors who treated each other like family. They enjoyed spending time with neighbors, all who adored Mona, went to Sunday worship in church, and even pursued their passion for music when they sang with the famous Front Porch Pickers. Mona played the mandolin, while her husband Terry played the guitar.

Mona Jean Powell will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy as an accomplished real estate professional will continue to inspire future generations in this industry. Although a failing heart took her away from this realm, her loving heart remained here as a beacon of light for all to follow.

Mona Jean Powell (Kaufman) is survived by husband Terry Powell of Sun City Center, Florida, beloved children: Sherry (Greg) Bussel, Bobby Crowder, beloved stepdaughter, Marci (Matt) Stephens, loving grandchildren: Brandon S., Summer, Evan, Austin, Devon, loving step grandchildren: Brandon M, Haleigh, Amelia, Eliza, highly adored great grandchildren: Braydon, Elianna, Josiah, Avery, Parker, Brynn, Luke, and highly adored step great grandchildren, Emersyn and Xavier.
