Raymond Carroll Byrne, Sr.

December 20, 1933 — August 15, 2023

Mooresville

Raymond Carroll Byrne, Sr., 89, a longtime Mooresville resident, was reunited with his beloved wife on August 15, 2023.  Mr. Byrne was born December 20, 1933, in Indianapolis, to the late Joseph and Edith Edna (Witigan) Byrne.  He married Sharon Juanita (Hill) on August 23, 1958, and she preceded him in death on February 5, 2023.

Ray graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1952, but not before essentially becoming the man of the house after his father had left at an early age.  Ray began working as a golf caddy at the age of 9 at the Speedway Golf Course, creating a love for the sport that lasted his entire life, golfing into last month.  He loved golfing with his brother-in-law, Noel, his son, and his grandsons.  Ray was a manager for A&P Grocery for nearly 20 years before being employed at Inland Container for more than 20 years.  Always one to stay busy, Ray continued working into his retirement years as a courier for Quest Diagnostics, as a driver for the Mooresville Senior Center, and as a bus aid for the Mooresville School Corporation.

Ray was a strong Christian, a student of the Bible, and always a faithful follower of Christ.  He had been a member of the Church by the Side of Road, Town Center (Church of God), and most recently the Brooklyn Church of God.  He was a lay leader in the church, served on numerous boards, and a Sunday School Superintendent.  A handyman in the truest sense, Ray could fix literally anything from cars to electrical to plumbing.  In addition to his passion for golf, he stayed active as an avid walker, walking on a daily basis 3 to 5 miles.  Ray will be remembered as a peacemaker, a gentleman, and for his loyalty to his Lord, wife, and family.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill Byrne, Donna Hambrick, and Sue Kirkling.

Survivors include his children, Debbie (Randy) Parmerlee, Raymond C. (Melissa) Byrne, Jr., Becky (Rodney) Walker, and Cindy Tackett; siblings, John “Jack” Byrne, Joan Worley, Harry Byrne, and Sandy Davis; grandchildren, Randy Parmerlee, Jr., Ryan Parmerlee, Ross Parmerlee, Jacob Byrne, Abigail Byrne, Rodney Walker, Jr., Kristi Kean, Nicholas Tackett, and Jenna Tackett; 13 great grandchildren.

Ray’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be Monday, August 21, 2023, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.  The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2023, in the Brooklyn Church of God, 8606 N. Country Club Road, Mooresville.  Burial will follow at the Mooresville Cemetery.  Visit
