Samuel Bruce Cox, 80, of Martinsville, passed from this life peacefully in the comfort of his home and surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, March 17, 2024. He was born in Washington, Indiana to the late Alva Bruce Cox and Myrtle Lucyle (Bussinger) Cox on June 20, 1943.
Sam served as First Deputy at the Morgan County Courthouse for many years starting in 1984. He attended Monrovia Christian Church. An avid music lover, he enjoyed listening to all music including oldies, classic rock, blues, classic county, and jazz. He was full of information about music as well and would know the artist and song title instantly. He loved all sports including football, baseball, hockey, and soccer. A true Indiana sports fan, he loved the Colts, Pacers, Indiana University sports, and Purdue University sports.
He had an infectious personality and possessed the ability to bring joy to others. Occasionally he would run over someone with his powerchair by mistake, of course. All the while bringing a smile to the face of those around him. Additionally, Sam enjoyed painting and dancing.
He will be deeply missed by many friends and family including his nieces and nephews, Branden Cox of Washington, Christina (husband, Josh) Smith of Ellettsville, Damien Cox of Washington, Kiersten Cox of Washington, Michelle (husband, Gary) Yunker of Clermont, Florida, Jeremiah Cox of Terre Haute, Jai (wife, Jennifer) Cox of Indianapolis, Jonah (wife, Tanya) Cox of Plainfield, and Jeri Cox of Orlando, Florida; and chosen sister, Carmen Cox of Orlando, Florida.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Myrtle Cox; brothers, Jerald A. Cox and Charles R. Cox; and sisters, Winifred L. Cox.
